• What is it?: A natural broad-spectrum preservative blend based on organic acids. This natural preservative is used in cosmetic products to protect formulas from bacteria and fungi and help them last longer. It is fully compatible with a wide variety of formulations as well as most types of cationic, nonionic and anionic systems.
• Applications: Anhydrous, Body Butter, Body wash, Conditioner, Cream, Deo/ Anti-Perspirant, Eye creams/gels, Eye shadow, Face Lotion, Face wipes, Facial Cream, Foundation, Feminine hygiene, Hair gel, Hand soap (non anti-bac), Lipstick/gloss, Lotion, Make up remover, Mascara, Oil in Water, Powder, Shampoo, Suncare, Toner, Water in Oil.
• Usage rate: Recommended use level of 0.2-0.8%. Max use 1.15% (not allowed in aerosols). Can be added directly to the formulation below 100F/40C. External use only.
• Strengths: Tests comparing P-gard 221 versus parabens and paraben blends show higher efficacy across the board and substantially better performance in formulations with a lower pH.
• Why do we use it in formulations?: It provides broad spectrum activity against bacteria, yeast, and mould whilst being low cost in use. Tests comparing Preservative P-gard 221 to Parabens and Paraben blends indicate higher efficacy and better performance in formulations with a low to neutral pH, and shows good stability and efficacy in a wide variety of formulations
